Car Alarm Systems Provide Safety

An alarm system on your car was thought of as a luxury years ago, but many new cars come with alarm systems today, and many other car owners have alarm systems installed.While an alarm system will not always stop a car thief, it will usually slow a thief down and call attention to the crime, bringing the thief the unwelcome attention of police, bystanders and the car owner.
Law enforcement and insurance companies often recommend a combination approach to cut down on car thefts.A combination of an alarm system with another anti theft device of some sort, such as a steering wheel club, can make your car just too much hassle for a car thief.Also adding accessory locks can slow a thief down.Slowing a thief down makes it much less likely that you will be the victim of a car thief.
Even if using a combination of vehicle alarms and anti theft devices it is still always wise to lock your vehicle, taking the keys with you. Windows should be up and if you have a sunroof it should be closed.Also make sure that temptation is not visible.If you have items that are obviously of value in the front seat of your car, you are more likely to become the victim of a car thief.For instance, dont leave a collection of tapes or CDs visible.Lock them in the truck of the car, and if your stereo system has a removable faceplate, lock it away as well.
Make sure your car has efficient door locking systems.Modern remote keyless entry systems provide valuable protection, but only if the windows are rolled up.If parking at home and you have a garage available, use it.If there is no garage park in your driveway or if parking on the street make sure the area is well lit.Be aware ofpossible hiding places.Dumpsters, vans and trucks can be hiding places for thieves and should be avoided.Also remember to turn your wheels sharply to one side, which can help deter theft by towing.And above all, if you have a vehicle alarm system, turn it on and use it.The devices to be used with your alarm system are varied, and many can help.They include door locks, window locks, auxiliary locks for thevent and wing windows, wheel cover locks, locking lug nuts, and gear shift column locks.Some alarm system also use immobilizers which stop the vehicle from being stolen by cutting off fuel in the fuel system, stopping the starter motor or disabling the ignition system.These devices have been proven to be effective and would be wise to consider.They are recommended by many insurance companies and by may police departments.
There are many types of sensor alarms available for autos.They include the pin switch alarm which is activated by opening a door, trunk or hood. the motion detector which is activated by jacking up the car or uponimpact to the frame of the car;shock sensors which are activated by breaking glass or upon impact to the vehicle itself; auto horn alarms which are wired into the existing horn; and the high decibel auxiliary horns which are designed to draw attention to the tampering effort.Whatever alarm system you choose, have it installed by a skilled technician and use it, in combination with anti theft devices.Remember to lock your doors, roll up your windows and close your sunrooms. Take these safety steps and your chance of being a victim is greatly decreased.
